Here is a list of definitions of terminology which we use on our website.

Definitions have been written by ourselves, as well as adapted from content by Dictionary.com and TransformingPsychologicalTrauma.scot

We actively adapt our terminology and definitions to reflect the world that we are living in, and are open to discourse. If you feel like a definition or a piece of terminology is causing you distress or not serving your needs – don’t hesitate to reach out.

Anti-Racisma belief or practice that recognizes pervasive racism in society, and actively combats racial prejudice and discrimination in order to promote racial justice and equality:
Collectivea collective body; group.
Consultancya person or firm that provides consulting advice or services.
Day-Ratethe amount a consultant charges for a day of their time
Trauma-informedBeing ‘Trauma Informed’ means being able to recognise when someone may be affected by trauma, collaboratively adjusting how we work to take this into account and responding in a way that supports recovery, does no harm and recognises and supports people’s resilience.
Intersectionalitynoting or relating to intersectionality, the theory that the overlap of social identities contributes to the specific type of oppression and discrimination experienced by an individual:
Marginalised gendersplaced in a position of little or no importance, influence, or power:

a category of human beings that is outside the male/female binary classification and is based on the individual’s personal awareness or identity
Generational diversity the presence and inclusion of individuals belonging to all generations.
EDIAn acronym for Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion. For many this may still mean Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion however most now use the term Equity Instead.
Equitythe policy or practice of accounting for the differences in each individual’s starting point when pursuing a goal or achievement, and working to remove barriers to equal opportunity, as by providing support based on the unique needs of individuals
Equalitythe state or quality of being equal
Equala person or thing that is equal to another, as in quantity, degree, value, rank, or ability.
Diversitythe spectrum of individual differences and the corresponding group memberships and identities that human beings have in society
Inclusion the practice or policy of including and integrating all people and groups in activities, organizations, political processes, etc. especially those who are disadvantaged, have suffered racial discrimination, or are living with disabilities.
